Coffee filters…who doesn’t have that around because who doesn’t need coffee? I was trying to think of something fun to do with my kids one day and I happened to be by my coffee maker and saw the coffee filters. I had done some crafts before with my kids with coffee filters but I was trying to think of something Christmas related to make with them and I thought of ornaments. This is such an easy craft and my kids loved making it and seeing the end results.
- Coffee Filters
- Washable Markers
- Spray Bottle
- Some kind of tray
- Black Construction Paper
- Paper Cutter (Optional)
- White Ribbon or Pipe Cleaner
- Tape – normal and double sided is what I used
Once you have gathered all of the supplies give your kid one coffee filter and some washable markers and let them go to town. (Try to avoid black because it just kind of blends into the other colors.) I put the coffee filter on a clipboard or tray while my kids colored just to cut down on the mess.
Once your kid has finished coloring, put the coffee filter on a tray, get the spray bottle and spray the filter till it is all wet and the colors start to blend together. You can spray it yourself or depending on the age of the kid they can do it. My two year old did fine coloring but I sprayed his, while on the other hand my five year old could color and spray it. I did not do this craft with my one year old because he isn’t quite able to coloring yet.
Once they are dry I cut out a little square from black construction paper and used double sided tape to tape it to the top of the coffee filter like the top of ornaments. I also cut a piece of ribbon about 5-6 inches long and looped it and taped it to the back of the black construction paper. Once you have attached it all together hang it up and enjoy! I hung mine up in the windows in my living room which helped to decorate for Christmas and allowed my kids to enjoy their art with the light shining through every day.
I hope that you try this simple and fun craft with your kids and don’t forget to comment below to let me know what you think. If you want another fun ornament craft check out this post.
Until next time, keep creating memories with your kids.
